THE FUTURE OF HILLER FOOTBALL AWESOME!
Posted Saturday, October 29, 2011 by Ed Dalton
Here is some information to get you ready for football season 2012. First of all the young Hillers finish 2011 winning four out of the last five games including defeating Big 8 Champion West Mifflin at their stadium. This years seniors should be comended for their constant improvement and desire to get better and lead the program. Now the Future!
Offensive Line - Returns five starters Connor Fritz, Steve Iams, Even Seaman, Xavier Severens, and Jared Deep, only starter to graduate is guard Derrick Bedenbaugh.
Quarterback - Jason Vankirk returns after throwing for 856yards, 10 touchdowns[ties school record] and only 3 interceptions, and add to that his backup Don McWreath return to compete for the position.
Backfield - The two top rushers and scorers for the Hillers return in Patrick Frey and Kyle Dugan, gone however are three quality fullbacks Brandon Robertson, Eric Richards and Taylor Davidson and rb Ty Yocca who's senior season was cut short by a knee injury. But their are some promising fullbacks in the system in junior Connor Durko, sophomore Jon Dobich, as well as promising rising ninth and eighth graders.
Receivers - The receiving corps is losing two very good receivers in Jon Laschinsky and Mike Schumacher, they will be missed but leading receiver Corey Hunsberger along with promising junior receivers Evan Sherrib and Ryan Moon, and a handful of promising sophomores will make receiver 2012 a position of talent.
D-Line - Three of the four starting defensive linemen return Connor Durko, Jake Pato, and Xavier Severns, the Hillers lose two year starter Evan Gallagher. Jared Deep started four games on the dline and along with many young D Linemen will battle to get in that lineup next season.
Linebacker - Two starting linebackers return, Evan McWreath and Gage Marry, graduation will take starters Taylor Davidson, Brandon Robertson and Eric Richards, as well as part time starter Andrew Ward. There will be great competition here, Don McWreath and Evan Sherrib saw alot of play this season, but let me assure you the talent is on hand to continue the Hiller Tradition of Linebacker High.
Secondary - Corey Hunsberger returns to anchor the secondary, but two year starters Jon Laschinsky and Mike Schumacher graduate. Ryan Moon started a few games this year and sophomores Anthony Sivie, Mitch Kendra, Brandon McGavitt, and James Rivera will be in the thick of the competition to start.
THE KICKING GAME
Both the punter Corey Hunsberger and the kicker Jason Vankirk return as well as a very promising next years freshman. The kicking game is a position of strength.
THE RETURN GAME
Leading punt returner Corey Hunsberger and leading kick returners Kyle Dugan and Patrick Frey are back. Return game position of strength.
Everyone wants to win at the highest level, who is willing to do the required work to get to the goal. A goal is simply a dream with a plan, lets plan every detail to be great. AAA or AAAA we will be able to compete at the highest level, trust me when I tell you that today. We will have player evaluation meetings prior to Thanksgiving, look forward to talking to all of you individually and working with the seniors at continuing their careers in college football
