Trinity hard to figure
I don't know the entire situation, but from the outside looking in, you really have to wonder about Trinity's school board and its decisiion to again get rid of Ed Dalton as football coach. It makes no sense. Read some Washington Observer-Reporter stories and you might get the opinion that the biggest problem might be the school board. The board opened Dalton's coaching position and athletic director position last year, but then re-hired him as coach. The board made him a teacher instead of AD.
OK, so this season Dalton takes Trinity to the WPIAL playoffs AGAIN and gets fired by a 5-4 vote. The school board is at odds on Dalton and it really makes you wonder about the board when many community members and players have shown up at board meetings to support Dalton.
A story in today's Post-Gazette says the school board's decision was strictly "performance based." Say what? If it was performance based then Dalton should've been nominated for coach of the decade for what he did. Does the school board remember that this program was, to be blunt, hideous when Dalton took over.
Dalton turned around Trinity's program. Did he win WPIAL titles? No. But his teams made the playoffs in eight of his 12 seasons, including six years in a row. WHAT DOES THE SCHOOL WANT? And here are Trinity's records in the 11 seasons before Dalton arrived: 1-9, 1-9, 0-10, 3-7, 6-4, 4-6, 1-9, 6-4, 3-7, 1-9, 2-8. During those years, Trinity made the playoffs once.
What does this school want? It's not like Bill Cowher is coming out of retirement to coach Trinity.
