Andrea Dalton has double double but UPJ comes up short against Fairmont

Lady Cats Suffer 70-58 Loss at Fairmont State
01/28/10... (Box Score) Fairmont State (WV) University used a pair of double-digit runs in the first half to climb out to an 11-point halftime lead on its way to handing the Lady Cats a 70-58 conference road loss, Thursday evening. Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) scored 15 points, and Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) collected a double-double of 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead Pitt-Johnstown, now 9-7 overall and 6-5 in the WVIAC.
Maria Montini (Irwin, Pa.) gave the Lady Cats their only lead of the night at 3-2 on a three-pointer one minute into the game. However, Lauren Streicher's three-pointer ended an 11-0 Fairmont State run that put the Lady Falcons up 13-3 with just under 16 minutes remaining in the first half.
Pitt-Johnstown clawed its way back to make it 15-10 on Kelly Goode's (Pleasant Plain, OH) jumper at 12:07, but Fairmont State answered and outscored the Lady Cats 10-0 over the next 5:21 to built their largest lead of the first half at 25-10 on Rachel Murray's basket at 6:46.
Aden hit a three-pointer with 3:41 left to cut Pitt-Johnstown's deficit to 27-17, before the Lady Falcons went into the intermission with a 35-24 lead.
Montini opened the second half with two straight three-pointers to get the Lady Cats to within five at 35-30. Fairmont State pushed the lead back out to eight, until Goode's basket at 15:19 made it 38-35.
That was as close as Pitt-Johnstown would get. The Lady Falcons got the lead back into double-digits at 48-37 on Murray's jumper in the paint at 11:21and matched its 15-point first half lead on Streicher's fifth three-pointer with 6:21 to play.
Ashley Vavrek's free-throws extended the lead to 66-46 with 2:31 remaining, before the Lady Falcons went on to the 12-point victory.
The Lady Cats ended the night shooting 34.5% from the field, 9-20 from three-point range and 9-13 from the free-throw line. Fairmont State shot 42.6 from the field with six three-pointers. The Lady Falcons were also 12-16 from the charity stripe.
Aden led Pitt-Johnstown with 15 points and five rebounds. Dalton had 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Kayla Loughner (Brinklow, MD) rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points and five rebounds. Montini had three three-pointers for nine points, while Qiuana Brown (Monroeville, Pa.) added seven points and four rebounds.
Streicher's game-high 23 points, including five three-pointers, paced Fairmont State. Murray had 17 points and a game-high 11 rebounds, and Vavrek chipped in 15 points for the Lady Falcons, who won their fourth straight game and improved to 12-4 overall and 9-2 in conference play.
The Lady Cats travel to Glenville State (WV) College on Saturday, before hosting a WVIAC doubleheader with the Mountain Cats against Seton Hill University on Monday, beginning at 5:30 p.m. in the Sports Center.
