Lady Cats Dealt 61-44 Loss at Charleston
01/09/10... (Box Score)  Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) scored 14 of her game-high 16 points in the second half and grabbed eight rebounds, but defending WVIAC champions University of Charleston (WV) opened-up a 16-point second half lead and dealt the Lady Cat a 61-44 road loss, Saturday night.  Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 5-4 overall and 2-2 in the WVIAC.
After a sluggish start by both teams, Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.) scored six of the Lady Cats' first 10 points to help Pitt-Johnstown move out to a 10-6 lead 6:24 into the game.
Lindsey Comeau's basketball for Charleston tied the score at 10 with 10:25 to play in a low scoring first half, before the Golden Eagles regained the lead for the first time since scoring the first basket of the game on Tarenna Dixon's basket at the 6:31 mark.  Dixon's bucket sparked an 8-2 Charleston run to close the half.  Lindsey Kentner followed with a three-pointer to increase the lead to 19-14 :32 later.
Monae Baker (Bushkill, Pa.) cut the Lady Cat deficit to 21-16 at 2:25 on two of her eight first half points, before Pitt-Johnstown went into the halftime break trailing 24-16.
Charleston began to pull away in the second half.  Kaitlyn Arick pushed the Golden Eagles' lead into double-digits at 26-16 2:15 into the second half, and Lindsey Kentner extended the lead to 38-20 midway through the half.
The Lady Cats began to battle back.  Dalton scored 12 points to lead a 14-4 Pitt-Johnstown run over the next 5:19 to cut the deficit to 42-36 with 4:41 to play.
However, it never got any closer.  Charleston outscored the Lady Cats 19-8 the rest of the way on its way to earning the 17-point victory.
Dalton led all scorers with 16 points on 7-21 shooting from the field and 2-2 from the free-throw line.  Aden and Baker each added 13 points and five rebounds, while Qiuana Brown (Monroeville, Pa.) pulled down nine rebounds.
Pitt-Johnstown struggled on the offensive end, shooting just 30% (20-66) for the game, including just 1-22 from behind the three-point line.
Tianna Beatty paced Charleston with 13 points.  Arick collected 12 points and eight rebounds, while Dixon had eight points and a game-high 13 rebounds for the Golden Eagles, who improved to 8-2 overall and 5-2 in conference play.
The Lady Cats travel to WVIAC games at West Virginia State University on Monday and Davis & Elkins (WV) College on Thursday, before hosting conference rival Alderson-Broaddus (WV) College on Saturday as part of a doubleheader with the Mountain Cats.  The Lady Cats will tip-off at 1 p.m., followed by the men’s game at 3 p.m.
