WASHINGTON, Pa. --
Students upset over the dismissal of athletic director and head football coach Ed Dalton spoke out Tuesday night with petitions in hand at the school board meeting of the Trinity Area School District
in Washington County.
WTAE Channel 4's news-exchange partner The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reported
that Dalton has no plans to re-apply for the job.
"In the last 11 years that Dalton's been there, we've had eight winning seasons and three losing ones, and we've been in the playoffs five consecutive years," said Ben Brownlee, a Trinity senior. "I just don't think any other coach is going to bring that to the table. As far as the next step, I think he can get us there."
"For me personally, it's like a wonderful life," Dalton said. "(It was) about as bad as it could have been Thursday evening. It's that nice tonight that all these people came out not only to support myself, but to support the fall coaches," Dalton said.
The board also opened up all fall coaching positions Tuesday night. Dalton's contract expires at the end of June 2010.
A reason for Dalton's dismissal was not reported.
