Sheena Aden Named to All-Classic Team

(Box Score) Sheena Aden (Sandy Lake, Pa.), an All-Classic Team selection, and Andrea Dalton (Washington, Pa.) scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds apiece, but Pitt-Johnstown was not able to hold on for a come-from-behind victory and suffered a 59-54 loss to Lake Erie (OH) College in Sunday's finale of the 2009 Lady Cat Classic sponsored by Comfort Inn, Sleep Inn and Cummings Trophies & Engraving. Pitt-Johnstown slipped to 1-2 to start the year.
Aden scored the Lady Cats first five points, before Sara Tirmarco's (Hollidaysburg, Pa.) three-pointer 3:12 into the game gave Pitt-Johnstown an 8-7 lead. Lake Erie used an 11-3 run over the next 7:37, capped by Stephanie Rogers' lay-up, to give the Storm an 18-11 advantage. Pitt-Johnstown answered to pull within one point at 18-17 with 6:00 remaining in the half on Andrea Dalton's (Washington, Pa.) basket. After Lake Erie pushed the lead to 24-17 with 3:33 left, the Lady Cats closed out the half on a 5-0 run to cut the deficit to 24-22, despite just 26.5% shooting.
Roger's basket 6:35 into the second half gave Lake Erie its largest lead of the game at 38-30. However, Pitt Johnstown got 10 points from Dalton to highlight a 16-1 run over the next six minutes to give the Lady Cats a 46-39 lead with 7:36 left on the clock. Once again, the Storm battled back to tie the score at 48 on Alyssa Wagers' free-throw at 4:38 mark. The teams exchanged the lead three more times, before Lake Erie took the lead for good at 54-53 on another Wager's free-throw with 1:41 remaining.
Aden and Dalton paced Pitt-Johnstown with 14 points and seven rebounds each. Trimarco and Katie Kendall (Bethel Park, Pa.) each added six points, while Kelly Goode (Pleasant Plain, OH) had five points, four rebounds and pair of assists, and Qiuana Brown (Monroeville, Pa.) chipped in four points, five rebounds and three assists in the loss.
Wagers scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down seven rebounds, and Rogers added 18 points and a game-high nine rebounds to help Lake Erie even its record at 2-2.

In Sunday's first game of the Lady Cat Classic, Slippery Rock University (1-3) got 12 points from Julie Molloy and 11 points and four rebounds off the bench from Emilee Vitez in a 60-47 victory over Georgian Court (NJ) University (1-2). Slippery Rock also got five points and six rebounds from All-Classic Team selection Nikki Presto. Christina White led Georgian Court with 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds on her way to being named to the All-Classic Team. Dana Wert paced the Lions with a game-high 13 points.
The Lady Cats open the 2009-10 WVIAC schedule at Wheeling Jesuit (WV) University on Tuesday, before returning home to host a non-conference game against Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday at 2 p.m. in the Sports Center as part of a doubleheader with the Mountain Cat men's team. The Mountain Cats will play California University (PA) at 4 p.m.
